Had some fun at shadyside Dragway on Sat. sept 29th. No ETs given. Just good fun. My wife filmed this with my grandpa riding passenger.
She also got to ride along, I tried to stay focused on that run anyway....

Saying Good Bye

This week Belton, SC will have to say good bye to the 64 Oldsmobile Cutlass F-85. My late friend Ron's Cutlass will go to be in Virginia with his Son, Ron Jr.
I hate to see this car go and leave the area, but I know Ron Jr will take good care of it and enjoy it like Ron would have wanted.

Ron was the Founder of Ye Olde Speed & Sport Emporium in the mid 1980s in Manchester, CT. His memory and speed shop lives on here in Belton, SC and @ speedtheorems.com

New Trans and Converter

Picked up a good core C4 transmission from my want ad on craigslist, and Speed Theorems' Jared took it in for rebuilding at Cooks Racing Transmissions in Cowpens, SC.   Ordered a new converter with a 2800 stall thru Savage Engines.   Also obtained a nice used B&M Bandit Shifter with cable.   The car is now pretty much complete on the mechanical side.  All that is missing is a radiator, fuel pump, fuel lines, and a driveshaft.

New ET Street Radials

LEGAL AT LAST

Bought brand new M/T ET STREET RADIALS from Savage Engines & Parts
275/60/15
28" Tall
9.5" Wide

Upgraded from 26" 10.0" wide M/T Drag Slicks

This really helped the stance of this car, not only that but the ride and feel is a lot different now, also it made my gear ratio slightly higher, if I ever run a 1/4 mile pass, these will insure RPM through the traps.

Introducing ... the Fairmont Engine!

Remanufactured 5.0 V8 from a 1995 F-150, has 1997 heads.  Ran absolutely perfect in the truck it came out of.  Collected the parts I wanted... foxbody oil pan, oil pump, pickup tube, explorer upper and lower intake, all new gaskets, foxbody fuel rail and injectors, explorer throttle body with mustang linkages etc, a/c delete pully, foxbody mustang wiring harness, trickflow stage one cam, fox mustang convertible motor mounts, and mustang style distributor.   Starting to disassemble and reassemble with the new parts.  The inside of this engine looks like brand new.  Degreased, painted engine, all accessories, brackets, etc...   The last big purchase will be the headers.  Other than that its pretty much complete.

We've lost a good friend.

My good Friend Ron Shurkus passed away today after a year long fight with Asbestos Cancer. Last March he was given 3 months to live, and lasted a year. He was able to drive and enjoy his 64 Olds, drag race it, and even won 1st place at a car show.

He will be missed a bunch by me and a lot more folks. Great guy.

Ron founded Ye Olde Speed n Sport in Connecticut back in the 80s and sold it around 1991 and moved here to Anderson, SC. I will continue to keep his memory and old speed shop name alive here.

Fairmont Almost Ready for Paint, Needs Engine

What does 2012 hold for the Fairmont Project? Will paint be completed? Will I finish out the running gear? Maybe one, but almost certainly not both. Still waiting on that perfect engine to show up at the right time. I can't seem to accumulate enough money to make that big purchase, so instead i've been buying little things that keep me busy for hours. For example, the steel cowl hood scoop from Goodmark. It has been a gloriously mild winter and I have enjoyed the time I have spent out there.
